Our third trip to Cambodia proved to be incredibly successful. Lead by Dr. Ann Messer, Founder, and Annie Albrecht, Programs Director, the One Good Turn team provided medical education and training at three rural clinics in the Koh Ke region of Cambodia. We partnered with the University of Puthisastra Medical School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia as well as American students from McGovern Medical School in Houston, TX to provide cross-cultural, hands-on clinical training. Simultaneously, we worked alongside community health workers at each clinic, teaching best-practice diagnostic and treatment protocols for a variety of medical issues. This model allowed the US and Cambodian medical students, as well as the community health workers, to learn about a variety of health issues while treating patients at each clinic, combining education and treatment into an effective and efficient clinical rotation. We also provided training in the World Health Organization/American Academy of Pediatrics sponsored Helping Babies Survive suite of programs (including Essential Care for Every Baby, Essential Care for Small Babies, and Improving Care of Mothers & Babies).
